Accessibility of Club Esse web sites

Last updated:

Current status: not fully compliant. The service presents some accessibility barriers, and a comprehensive technical assessment is currently under way.

This information has been prepared pursuant to Article 12 and Annex IV of Italian Legislative Decree No. 82 of 27 May 2022, implementing Directive (EU) 2019/882 on the accessibility requirements for products and services.

Our commitment

Club Esse is committed to making its digital services usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities who use assistive technologies or alternative methods of interaction.

Accessibility is regarded as an ongoing service requirement and applies to accessing information, searching for properties, contacting Club Esse and completing the entire online booking process.

This page transparently describes the current status of the service, the limitations already identified, the checks still in progress, the available alternatives and the planned improvements. It does not constitute certification of full compliance.

Scope of this information

This information applies to Club Esse digital services managed by Atos Gestioni S.r.l., VAT No. 12728191003, including the e-commerce service used to complete bookings, and in particular:

  • the corporate website www.clubesse.it and its internal pages;
  • the booking service available at booking.clubesse.it;
  • contact forms, restricted areas and services connected with the Club Esse Prime programme;
  • downloadable documents, audio and video content, and interactive elements embedded in the pages;
  • components supplied by third parties when they are integrated into the process required to view or purchase the service.

External websites and platforms reached through hyperlinks are managed by their respective owners once users leave the Club Esse domains. Third-party elements embedded directly in Club Esse services are nevertheless included in our assessment and improvement activities.

Accessibility status

Based on the preliminary review carried out on a representative sample of pages, functions and documents, the Club Esse digital service is currently not fully compliant with the applicable accessibility requirements.

Full compliance is therefore not being declared. Some functions may be difficult or not fully usable for people who navigate exclusively by keyboard, use screen readers, substantially magnify content, modify text spacing, or require captions, transcripts and properly structured documents.

A more extensive assessment of the entire service, including the complete booking process, is under way. This page will be updated to reflect the results and the improvements made.

Known limitations

The main issues identified so far are described below.

Page structure, headings and bypassing content blocks

On some pages, the heading hierarchy is inconsistent: there may be repeated main headings, skipped heading levels or pages without a correctly identified main heading. This can make it more difficult to understand the content structure and navigate quickly using a screen reader.

The pages reviewed do not consistently provide an initial “Skip to main content” link, which helps keyboard and screen-reader users bypass repeated header and navigation content.

Links, buttons, icons and images

Some links use generic or repeated wording, such as “Read more”, which does not by itself provide a sufficient description of the destination. Some icons, linked images and graphical elements may have no accessible name, or one that is generic or insufficiently informative. In some cases, adjacent elements lead to the same destination and create redundant navigation steps.

Forms and verification controls

Some forms may contain labels, instructions or error messages that are not fully associated with the relevant fields. The anti-spam control based on an arithmetic operation may represent a barrier and does not always provide an equivalent method suitable for all users.

Online booking

The booking process uses complex dynamic components. Full compatibility of every step with keyboards and assistive technologies has not yet been confirmed, particularly for selecting dates, choosing the number of guests, selecting a property, room and rate, accessing the personal area, entering data, handling errors, making payment and receiving booking confirmation.

PDF documents and downloadable content

Not all PDF documents have a complete semantic structure, a verified reading order, table headings correctly associated with their data, or alternative text for graphical elements. Technical sheets, price lists, regulations and posters may rely on complex visual layouts and therefore be difficult to use with a screen reader or magnification.

Audio, video and multimedia content

Captions, text transcripts, audio descriptions and equivalent alternatives are not consistently available for all videos, podcasts and other multimedia content. Some embedded media players may also fail to expose every control in a fully accessible way.

Dynamic components and third-party services

Menus, carousels, tabs, modal windows, cookie preference banners, chats, maps, document viewers and other embedded components may not always communicate their state, name, role and content changes correctly to assistive technologies.

Areas still under review

The preliminary review does not amount to a complete audit. The following areas are still subject to systematic testing:

  • complete keyboard navigation, focus order and visibility of the focus indicator;
  • the absence of keyboard traps or loss of context within interactive components;
  • compatibility with the main screen readers and the most widely used combinations of browsers and operating systems;
  • the contrast of text, icons and controls in every interaction state;
  • magnification up to 200% and 400%, text resizing and content reflow on narrow screens;
  • the clarity and announcement of errors, status messages and confirmations;
  • use without requiring a particular device orientation, dragging, complex gestures or excessively limited completion times;
  • the size and spacing of interactive targets on mobile devices;
  • any requirement to re-enter information already provided during the same process when reuse is technically possible;
  • correct identification of the page language and any changes of language;
  • the effective accessibility of all variants of the booking and payment process.

Any additional non-compliances identified during testing will be added to this page and included in the remediation plan.

Assistance and alternative methods

Anyone encountering an accessibility barrier may request assistance or an alternative way to obtain information and use the service.

  • For assistance in finding a property or making a booking, please call the booking line on +39 06 45439344.
  • You may write to [email protected], using “Accessibility of the Club Esse website” as the subject line.
  • You may request the content of a PDF, poster or multimedia item in an accessible alternative format, when available or reasonably producible.
  • You may request that the information on this page be explained orally through telephone assistance.

Club Esse will review the request and provide a response or alternative solution as soon as reasonably possible, taking into account the nature and complexity of the report.

Accessibility improvement plan

Club Esse has begun a progressive improvement programme that includes both changes to the current version and the design of a new website version incorporating accessibility criteria from the earliest stages.

Activities are prioritised as follows:

  1. removing barriers that prevent or hinder booking, contacting Club Esse and accessing essential information;
  2. correcting page semantics, accessible names, generic links, forms and error messages;
  3. testing and correcting keyboard navigation, focus management, contrast, zoom and content reflow;
  4. progressively producing or replacing inaccessible PDF documents and multimedia content;
  5. reviewing third-party components and services and requesting corrective action from the relevant suppliers;
  6. introducing accessibility checks into the editorial process and future releases.

The new website version is intended to address the issues present in the current platform. Full compliance will not, however, be declared until automatic and manual testing has been completed, including tests with keyboards, magnification and assistive technologies.

The development of a new version does not suspend priority improvements to the service currently available online.

Feedback and contact details

To help us identify and reproduce the issue, feedback should include the following information whenever possible:

  • the address of the page or the name of the document concerned;
  • a brief description of the difficulty encountered;
  • the task the user was attempting to complete;
  • the device, browser and any assistive technology used;
  • the requested alternative format or type of assistance.

Assessment and monitoring method

This information was prepared following a preliminary review of a representative sample covering corporate pages, property pages, news items, forms, the Club Esse Prime area, the booking service, multimedia content and downloadable documents.

The assessment programme includes:

  • automated checks of the code and the main technical criteria;
  • manual reviews of structure, content and interactive components;
  • keyboard-only navigation;
  • testing with screen readers and other assistive technologies;
  • magnification, reflow, contrast and mobile-device testing;
  • periodic reviews of published content and third-party services;
  • new assessments following significant changes, technical updates and the release of the new website version.

This page will be updated following significant improvements and whenever the assessment identifies new relevant information about the accessibility status of the service.

Legal and technical references

Assessment and remediation activities are carried out with reference to the applicable requirements laid down by Directive (EU) 2019/882, Italian Legislative Decree No. 82 of 27 May 2022 and the Italian Digital Agency guidelines on service accessibility.

The harmonised technical reference currently used is UNI CEI EN 301549:2021, corresponding to EN 301 549 V3.2.1, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA success criteria for web content. The additional WCAG 2.2 Level AA criteria are adopted as an improvement objective for the design of the new version and for compatible changes to the current platform.

Italian Law No. 4 of 9 January 2004 and its related rules for public bodies and any private entities falling within its specific scope constitute a separate legal framework. This page is primarily prepared as the equivalent information document required by Italian Legislative Decree No. 82/2022.
